Associate Chaplain Part-time

Essential Functions
Offer spiritual care to residents,
families and staff of Luther Park Community through visitation and
religious services in collaboration with the Chaplain.
Provide individual spiritual support to
residents (many with dementia) and their families based on
resident's/family's own spirituality and/or religious faith.
Plan and conduct religious activities
and worship services for residents of our skilled nursing, assisted living
and independent living facilities including some Sunday services.
Serve as a spiritual and emotional
support resource for staff in support of their own spirituality/religion.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in pastoral studies or related field
Master's degree in pastoral studies or related field preferred
Two year's experience in spiritual/emotional support within health care and/or in pastoral ministry required
Demonstrated passion for serving senior adults including those with dementia required
Completion of at least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education preferred
Ordained minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America or the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and endorsed by incumbent's denomination preferred

Competencies:
· Knowledge of the aging process as it affects ministry/pastoral care.
· Knowledge of bereavement support and end-of-life-care.
· Knowledge of the fundamentals and practices of pastoral care, including counseling principles.
· Knowledge of the basic differences in major religions, faiths and Christian denominations.
· Ability to plan and conduct worship, devotional services and study groups that are geared to the resident’s level of functioning.
· Ability to establish relationships of trust and support with residents, family members and staff in a long-term care setting.
· Ability to identify and respond to spiritual needs in individuals with various religious backgrounds.
· Time and stress management capacity to balance multiple deadlines and commitments while still assuring expected pastoral care outcomes and operating objectives.
· Personal, spiritual and emotional capacity and resiliency to be present to and supportive of spiritual pain of residents, families and staff that sometimes presents as strong emotion including loss and grief associated with resident death and maintain an emotional balance level to provide support, direction and resources where needed.
· Personal flexibility to work as needed, and from time-to-time various shifts and hours including Sundays.
· Able to use Windows Office software applications with moderate/functional capability in Word, Excel and Outlook.
