Summary: Responsible for planning and implementing daily classroom lesson plans and ensuring the health and safety of children in the classroom in partnership with the assistant teacher by performing the following duties:

Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Coordinates developmentally-appropriate curriculum schedules and maintains requirements for licensing and YoungStar accreditation. *
  2. Greets children and parents or guardians in an enthusiastic manner each day. *
  3. Monitors and observes the daily operation of the classroom for safety, positive interaction, and productive educational activity. *
  4. Oversees and facilitates the general safety of the classroom environment and its activities to include outside play. *
  5. Promotes and fosters each child’s positive self-esteem and individual development toward his/her fullest potential in the areas of physical, social, emotional, approaches to learning, language, communication, and cognitive growth. *
  6. Monitors talents, special abilities, disabilities, deficiencies, or problems of each individual child, document issues/concerns as needed in the logbook, and notifies management. *
  7. Addresses, monitors, and documents issues, concerns, and problems of each individual child and discusses with assistant teacher/management. *
  8. Develops and maintains a positive and confidential relationship with the parents of every child, including thorough communication about the program and each child’s progress. *
  9. Encourages parent interest and involvement in the program and seeks a partnership with parents. *
  10. Maintains confidentiality at all times both within and outside the center. *
  11. Applies knowledge of sound early childhood education, development concepts, and principles within the goals and philosophy of the school. *
  12. Completes children’s evaluations as required and maintains an accurate knowledge of documentation in children’s files. *
  13. Adheres to all established policies, procedures, and codes of ethics. *
  14. Reports any suspicion of child abuse or neglect to the appropriate party for follow-through. *
  15. Plans and prepares developmentally appropriate lesson plans and submits in accordance with administrative guidelines to the director or curriculum coordinator on a weekly basis. *
  16. Interacts with children through instructional methods to include play, music, arts and crafts, literacy, writing, technology, and physical activities. *
  17. Assists children when necessary to enhance learning skills and complete projects. *
  18. Establishes and maintains positive interpersonal relationships with all children, parents/guardians, and fellow staff. *
  19. Assists children with general hygiene practices including bathroom and cleanliness needs. *
  20. Shares pertinent information, suggestions, or ideas with management and co-workers on a regular basis. *
  21. Supervises the daily activities of the assistant teacher when necessary. *
  22. Documents daily activities of children on the appropriate paperwork. *
  23. Performs daily general cleaning duties. *
  24. Teaches according to center methods. *
  25. Offers appropriate support to students through a positive attitude. *
  26. Performs any other job duties as assigned.
