The Program Directors are responsible for managing, operating and overseeing
the Appleby Summer Camp Program area & the assigned camp staff. Reporting
to the Camp Director, this position involves extensive planning, program
development & enhancement, facilitating cross-camp activities/themes,
camper and parent care and engagement, staff training and risk management. The
program director team has multiple different roles, with experience and
requirements suited to the role, please see below for the roles available and
associated requirements.

• Science & Success Program Director
• Media Program Director
• Before & After Care Program Director
WHAT IS AMAZING ABOUT THIS JOB:
Pre-Camp Planning: December–June
• Organize, plan, and coordinate all aspects of program area that can be done
prior to summer including purchasing supplies, recruiting guest speakers, and
sub-committee work.
• Work closely with the Camp Director to build & enhance the programs.
• Attend monthly Senior Staff meetings prior to the summer.
• Adhere to all health and safety policies and protocols.
• Contribute to strategic planning and development based on community research,
competitor review, and analysis of previous years.
• Plan and coordinate themes within category and across camps with other
Program Directors.
• Assist Camp Director in recruitment, hiring, and orientation of staff.
• Develop and deliver training modules that support the professional
development of camp staff and volunteers.
• Plan cross-camp and cross-category activities, tournaments, and shows.
Camp: June–August
• Nurture a positive camp culture by leading, motivating, and developing strong
teams.
• Create activities that are welcoming for participants of all personalities
and abilities.
• Ensure all training modules include an element of follow-up, discussion, and
analysis.
• Manage facilities, equipment, and programs in accordance with Appleby College
standards.
• Prepare and deliver staff performance evaluations.
• Act as first aid and behavior management response presence for program area.
• Manage safe drop-off and pick-up for all campers in program area.
• Act as a parent/guardian liaison to build relationships with families.
• Supervise camper lunches and contribute to new activities and shows during
lunch hours.
Post-Camp Review
• Gather suggestions and ideas for the following summer.
• Debrief after summer is completed.
• Create Lessons Learned/Best Practices documentation.
Media Program Director
• Bachelor’s degree in fine arts/photography/media or a
related field is an asset.
• Possess an excellent understanding of multi-media and work experience in the
media arts in an educational or camp setting.
• Strong knowledge of graphics software including Lightroom, Photoshop,
Premiere, After Effects, Illustrator, Final Cut Pro, and iMovie.
• Photography experience using DSLR (Canon), video equipment, GoPro, and drone
knowledge an asset.
• Experience in video/slideshow production and hosting/directing shows.
• Oversee & assist with Camp Communications team: Photographers,
Videographers, Social Media Rep & Volunteer photographers to ensure website
and photo galleries are updated.
• Establish clear process and expectations of deliverables from the
communications team.
• Directly supervise Camp staff working in Media and Communications team.
Sports & Adventure Program Director
• Post-secondary graduate in recreation, sport, leisure,
physical education, or related field preferred.
• Knowledge and/or certification in canoeing: ORCKA or Paddle Canada
certifications an asset.
• High & low ropes facilitation/training & climbing experience an
asset.
• Current Boat License (Pleasure Craft Operator) required.
• Directly supervise Camp staff working in Sports & Adventure.
Science & Success Program Director
• Science, engineering or computer science-related degree
preferred.
• Relevant science experience developing and supervising junior/senior camps.
• Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
• Knowledge of robotics (NXT, LEGO ROBOLAB), video game design (GameMaker,
Scratch), and technology integration preferred.
• Directly supervise Camp staff working in Science & Success.
Before & After Care Program Director
• Post-secondary education in recreation, sport, child &
youth, or related field preferred.
• Supervise Before & After Care program staff and create schedules.
• Responsible for program operations (7:30–9:00am and 3:30–6:00pm).
• Plan and implement engaging age-specific activities.
Assist in creating weekly schedules
• Communicate daily with parents/guardians in an open and supportive manner.
WORK SCHEDULE
Training & Pre-Camp
• Monthly Meetings and Planning Time – Times determined by group consensus
• Friday May 29, 2026 – Evening
• Saturday May 30 and Sunday May 31, 2026 – Full Day
• Saturday June 13, 2026 – Full Day
• Sunday June 14, 2026 – Full Day
Camp Session Dates & Hours
• Camp Work: as assigned Monday June 22 to Friday August 28, 2026 (excluding
holidays)
• Weekdays 8:00am to 4:30pm
• Mandatory Orientation Meeting First day of each Week 7:30–8:00am
