Library Part-Time Daytime Circulation Clerk

Under the direction of the Library Director, Assistant Director and/or the Children’s Librarian. 

Circulation Clerk duties:

•Assist library patrons at the circulation desk.  

•Check in and check out all library materials, books, magazines, videos, CD’s, audiobooks.

•Collect fees.

•Sign up new patrons and keep the patron file up to date.

•Issue new library cards and renew library cards.

•Re-shelve library materials and keep the collection in proper order.  

•Help patrons locate materials.  

•Assist in answering reference questions.  

•Receive phone calls and answer questions over the phone.  

•Assist with weeding projects, when assigned.

•Assist with the covering of books, when assigned.

•Create book displays, when assigned.

•All other duties as required.

Will oversee Junior Clerks when Children’s Librarian, Library Director or Assistant Director are not present.

Work is performed in a typical library environment, which can be very hectic at times.  Errors could result in delay of patron satisfaction and confusion of library materials record keeping.

Constant light to moderate physical effort required in performing duties.  Constantly required to carry and handle books of all sizes; in small piles and singly, place books on shelves of varying heights (frequently bending, kneeling, squatting, or reaching to do so).  Climb the stairs. Typing on the computers.

Part time (15 hours/week)

Works under the general supervision of Children’s Librarian, with specific responsibility to the Library Director.

•Equivalent to high school education – will train.

•Some Library experience is preferred, particularly with ILS Evergreen software.
