Summary of Position:  The mission of Neuman Hotel Group is to provide our guests with personalized service and genuine hospitality.  The Event Captain directly supervises catered events. This includes the planning, set-up, execution and tear down of all events. The Event Captain stays in contact with the Event Manager or Client if Manager is not present throughout the event to ensure the highest guest satisfaction possible. All duties are to be performed in accordance with state laws and regulations, as well as Neuman Hotel Group policies, practices and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in executing assignments as planned by Event Manager. Includes assignments for each portion of the work shift; including set-up, reception, event tear-down and side work.
  • Review Banquet Event Orders (BEO’s) at the beginning of each shift to ensure room is set as contracted. Confirm and setup A/V equipment needs per Banquet Event Order (BEO).
  • Greet contact for the assigned event(s) and stay in contact throughout the event(s).
  • Work closely with Event Manager to execute all details of the event(s).
  • Supervise employee uniform standards.
  • Ensure front and back of the house are maintained in a clean and orderly fashion by implementing and consistently upholding Opening and Closing procedures. 
  • Know the menu for each function served and be able to explain dietary restrictions for each item to be served.
  • Promotes and maintains the highest level of customer service to all Hotel guests.
  • Determines when a guest should not be served additional alcoholic beverages in accordance with OLCC policies.
  • Uses a cash register/point of sale system and A/V equipment as needed.
  • Resolves guest complaints. Notifies Manager and/or security of all unusual events, circumstances, missing items or alleged thefts.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings as required by management. Takes part in ongoing training/coaching of staff.  
  • Maintains close communication and works cooperatively with managers and co-workers to ensure consistency of services and the highest quality of operation.
  • Assist Event Servers and Bartenders as needed during event.

Job Qualifications

  • At least 2 years’ experience as a Server in a banquet facility is required.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment, under short time constraints, and within established deadlines.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, in English.
  • Knowledge of food and beverage preparation, service standards, guest relations, and etiquette.
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts and schedules, including daytime, nighttime, weekends, holidays and overtime.
  • Ability to work well with people in a team and environment and lead the team to desired results.
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Food Handlers Card and OLCC Certification.
  • Ability to perform various activities such as constant standing, walking, frequent bending, reaching, kneeling and squatting.
  • Frequently lifts/carries up to 25 lbs and occasionally lifts/carries up to 50 lbs
  • Continual use of manual dexterity and gross motor skills with the frequent use of bi-manual dexterity and fine motor skills.
  • Working conditions may be indoor or outdoor depending on event location and varied weather conditions are expected.
