OLBN is currently seeking a Senior Project Architect to support our A/E design studio in Rockville, MD.  This position provides an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated and hard-working, seasoned architect to join a dynamic group of Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry professionals in a technology driven, collaborative environment. The Senior Project Architect will support OLBN’s architecture team as the technical lead for projects in the development of architectural calculations/ analyses, construction documents, specifications, and other design documentation. This position is also responsible for, with minimal oversight, independent design activities and oversight/review of design documentation produced by Junior and Staff Architects, from design inception through construction completion. The successful candidate shall be highly competent and possess progressive technical experience in architectural design and detailing, building codes and standards, and associated product knowledge. In addition, the successful candidate shall be a motivated self-starter who values teamwork as well as individual contribution/accountability and, through exceptional performance, is seeking opportunities for advancement in the management/leadership of a firm.  Attention to detail, commitment to deliverables and a desire to grow as a professional is essential.

OLBN is a full service architectural and engineering firm providing Architectural, Engineering and Construction (AEC) support services for both Governmental and Commercial Clients, with our primary project types being interior office space (GSA/Commercial), laboratories (NIH) and transportation facilities (WMATA). We are passionate about the integration of best-in-class professionals with leading edge technology to consistently advance both the products we deliver and the processes we utilize to deliver them.  Our Rockville studio is located approximately one-half block from Rockville Metro Station, and our projects are throughout the DMV area. 


Basic Requirements:

Education:  Bachelor of Architecture Required / Master’s Degree in Architecture and/or Professional Degree Preferred

Certifications:  Registered Architect (RA) required; Industry certifications and/or affiliations preferred

Background:  U.S. Citizen or legal resident with ability to pass background investigation


Key Skills and Responsibilities:

  • Supports design activities as the project design team’s senior professional, contributing to production directly while concurrently coordinating production of Junior and Staff Architects.
  • Has responsibility and accountability to OLBN leadership for individual and team execution of design activities to include construction documents, specifications, calculations and reports in support of project requirements.
  • Reviews and interprets established codes, design standards, regulations, and other industry information to ensure proper application on design projects.
  • Leads and participates in surveys and assessments of existing conditions.
  • Individually produces, and reviews work produced by Junior and Staff Architects, for architectural systems design; produces red-line edits for correction and conducts back-checks for finalization.
  • Works on multiple technically complex projects at various stages of completion concurrently.
  • Leads coordination efforts with other architectural, engineering, and technical staff, both internal and external, to ensure accuracy and technical proficiency of project submissions.
  • Works closely and interacts regularly with OLBN clients.
  • Responsible for the mentorship and training of Junior and Staff Architects.
  • Acts as Architect of Record (AOR) as required
  • Works effectively under pressure while meeting established budgets and schedules.
  • Supports quality control and quality assurance of all deliverables with a focus on personal accountability and continuous improvement.
  • General understanding / familiarity with technology (hardware and software).
  • Position involves overtime, as required, to meet project deadlines.
