Day Habilitation Counselor
For 25 years, Successful Living has supported mental health recovery in the Iowa City area. We are looking to hire a Day Habilitation Counselor. The Day Hab Counselor works with clients 18 years and older who live with chronic mental illness, engaging with clients to support and empower them to live more independently. Clients determine the goals they want to work on and identify what supports they need from staff. Staff assist clients in adaptive skills development, assistance with activities of daily living, community inclusion, transportation, adult educational supports, and social and leisure skills. Our Day Hab program utilizes a variety of activities and community outings as therapeutic modalities in helping with mental health recovery.
The counselor will meet with clients in a group setting to provide support and hands on training to enhance client's daily living skills, assist in developing natural supports and help increase community integration. The counselor will be planning and leading groups, participating in special events, recruiting clients to the Day Habilitation program, providing crisis intervention between clients, completing paperwork, cleaning and providing transportation.
Day Hab Counselor's responsibilities include:
Assisting clients in goal development and attainment.
Teach daily living skills to clients.
Assisting clients in developing natural supports and to be as independent as possible.
Assisting in group planning, shopping and transportation as needed.
Covering shifts when Day Habilitation Manager or Day Habilitation staff is sick or absent.
Keeping daily contact sheets on assigned clients.
Counselor will workdays and hours as assigned by the Day Habilitation Manager.

REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma. Preference given to candidates with a 2 or 4-year degree in any field
VALID DRIVERS LICENSE AND RELIABLE INSURED VEHICLE. DRIVING CLIENTS IS REQUIRED.
