The Mission of This Role 

In this role you will be a valued member of the RightMetric Delivery Team, working in a permanent, full-time position of Research Team Lead. Reporting to the Manager, Insight Delivery, you will create compelling, concise, data-backed research that helps marketers create and refine a digital strategy that is more effective by being evidence-based.

Our research is focused on (a) online audience behaviour to identify the content people are loving and where they’re spending their time, and (b) deconstructing the digital strategies of top-performing brands to identify what’s working and not working. This research is the core deliverable that RightMetric provides to their clients and this role is a key part of the delivery. 


Responsibilities
Digital Strategy Research (70%) 
  • Deliver Marketing Outsight projects that typically fall into 3 areas: 
    • Audience – digital audience segmentation and whitespace research. 
    • Content – finding hidden content opportunities. 
    • Competitor – uncovering competitive and industry digital performance. 
  • Analyze the digital strategies (relevant digital marketing channels, from advertising, to content, to SEO, affiliate marketing, app marketing, and beyond) of leading brands to uncover effective tactics and strategies. 
  • Apply and refine existing research methodologies; develop new methodologies as needed. 
  • Present key research findings and insights directly to clients, ensuring clarity, relevance, and impact. 
  • Utilize a suite of marketing intelligence tools (see our data) to gather and validate data. 
  • Collaborate with the research team during daily huddles to share findings and align on priorities. 
  • Lead research projects and client roadmaps, ensuring strategic alignment and measurable outcomes. 
  • Own deliverables end-to-end with strong project management skills, from scoping to final delivery. 
  • Apply advanced data analysis using tools such as Python, Excel, and other analytics platforms. 
  • Creating research whitepapers and reports for marketing purposes. Examples can be found on our homepage. 
Research Innovation, Tools, and Product Development (20%) 
  • Design and pilot new research methods, models, and frameworks to expand our capabilities. 
  • Recommend, test and validate emerging research tools, technologies. 
  • Continuously improve the quality, reliability, and storytelling impact of all research outputs. 
  • Support product development by applying research thinking to new solutions, features, and client-facing offerings. 
  • Champion a culture of experimentation and operational excellence across the research team. 
  • Utilize expertise in digital marketing tools to enrich research outputs. 
  • Utilize and develop with Google AI to improve research.
Team Mentorship (10%) 
  • Respond to and resolve day-to-day questions from researchers. 
  • Lead research check-ins midway through projects to review progress, assess quality, and provide actionable feedback. 
  • Collaborate with researchers at the start of each project to ensure alignment with client goals and research objectives. 
  • Capture and synthesize best practices and key learnings into shareable formats, such as monthly team workshops or playbooks. 
  • Aid in managing research team members by providing support, direction, and growth opportunities. 
  • Support team development through onboarding, skills training, and ongoing coaching initiatives. 
  • Uphold research quality standards while mentoring peers on methodology, tools, and storytelling best practices.

What We’re Looking For
Experience

We’re seeking a Marketing Research Team Lead with 5–7 years of experience who can combine analytical rigor with strategic thinking. The ideal candidate will: 

  • Design and execute end-to-end research programs using mixed-method approaches to answer complex marketing, product, and brand questions.  
  • Bring expertise with digital data and metrics. 
  • Demonstrate relatable experience utilizing marketing intelligence tools in our toolset. This includes using social, web, audience, advertising, and channels in your day-to-day. 
  • Translate research into clear, actionable insights. 
  • Lead client engagements from scoping through delivery, ensuring research projects meet strategic needs, stay on timeline, and deliver measurable impact.  
  • Manage research operations including sampling, survey design, data collection, and quality control. 
  • Demonstrate fluency in digital marketing concepts. 
  • Leverage analytics and measurement tools to enrich research findings.  
  • Build clear narratives and deliverables. 
  • Mentor Digital Strategy Researchers by reviewing work, guiding methodology, and fostering strong analytical and storytelling skills.  
  • Work effectively with French-Canadian clients and adapt research insights and messaging (bilingual ability is an asset).  
  • Bring marketing experience and vertical industry knowledge to contextualize findings and strengthen client impact. 
  • Experience utilizing and developing with various AI tools (ideally Gemini) to improve research efficiency and quality.
