Summary of Duties:
Under the direction of the Operations Manager Health, the Medical Transportation Coordinator provides information and services to community members regarding Medical Transportation services.
Key Deliverables and Expectations:
- Provides information and administers the First Nations Health Authority Health Benefits program following the policies in the Medical Transportation Framework
- Receives requests for patient travel assistance from Lil’wat Nation community members, a health professional or specialist referral, and advises client of eligibility based on FNHA policy. If the request does not meet all criteria, fill out the Benefit Exception form and submit it to FNHA for confirmation of eligibility
- Provides the client with information on support available and the requirements for the client to provide the required documentation
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient travel files
- Processes request through the e-Requester system to the Lil’wat Finance Department
- Advises the client of when and where the patient travel funds will be available, either for pick up or deposited into bank account provided by client
- Determines eligibility for overnight accommodation, makes the arrangements with the hotel including entering the information in e-Requester, and obtaining and faxing a Purchase Order to the hotel (evening & weekend work may be required
- Responds to issues and concerns regarding patient travel
- Communicate with external partners including hospitals, physicians, nurses, and social worker
- Establishes and maintains high standards of confidentiality including keeping all confidential information learned in the course of employment, ensuring verbal, written and electronic information is kept safe and secure
- Provides education and information to the community and staff of Lil’wat Nation
- Promotes client and family independence through a strength-based approach to services
- Provides back-up reception coverage when required
- Perform other related duties as requested
Experience and Attributes:
- Completion of Grade 12 or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Certification or training in Reception, Office Administration, Business Administration, etc. are an asset
- Proficient in computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, E-requester
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong knowledge of internal & external health programs and services
- Ability to respond positively during interactions and always maintain a calm professional manner
- Training in First Nations Health Benefits Patient Travel Administration is an asset
- Knowledge of First Nations issues, families, family systems and culturally safe practices
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with children, families, elders, staff, and external partners
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Understanding of the impacts of colonialism including residential schools, trauma, family breakdown, poverty
- Training in Time & Stress Management, Assertiveness, Conflict Resolution, Trauma Informed Care an asset
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License, a clean Driver’s Abstract, and a reliable vehicle
- Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check, vulnerable sector
- Evening and weekend work may be required
