Divisional Accountant (18 Months Contract)

Emterra Tire Recycling Ltd. is a proud division of Emterra Group and is a 100% Canadian, privately controlled company operating out of Brampton, Ontario. We haul and process used passenger, truck, industrial and agricultural tires. We are committed to preventing these end-of-life products from being disposed of in our landfills or littered on our natural landscapes. As a result of processing used tires, we have become a leading supplier of crumb rubber which can be transformed into many fantastic, recycled products, such as road asphalt, playgrounds, and synthetic turf.

Our tire division is searching for an Accountant to join our accounting team on an 18 months maternity leave contract. The Accountant will prepare monthly financial statements, reconciliations, analysis and special projects.

Position Description

  • Manages and coordinates the overall financial administration of the assigned division(s).
  • Preparation of large, detailed customer invoices
  • Preparation and submission of monthly financial statements with full analysis and commentary to Senior Staff.
  • Variance analysis on income & expenses as support to the monthly financial Statements.
  • Provide assistance to Manager as required to increase profitability of the division/company.
  • Maintain accounting records within Business Central.
  • Assists with month end close; Reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and inter-company accounts.
  • Assists regional controller with annual budget preparation
  • Assists departmental assignments and supervises payables/receivables staff
  • Mentor/oversee clerical staff. Prepare performance reviews
  • Work closely with the management team by providing analysis to improve efficiencies
  • Ensure billings are completed in a timely & accurate manner
  • Responsible for producing monthly financial statements & associated variance analysis for the division
  • Full cycle accounting duties – bank reconciliation, fixed asset recording, account analysis, allocations, inter company transactions, HST filing, budget, year end working papers
  • Monthly & annual reporting for our industry
  • Partner with GM and provide any assistance needed
  • Strong excel skills required
  • Maintain/oversee timely vendor invoice processing and perform/oversee customer collections
  • Maintain positive relationships with all staff, vendors, clients and municipal government contacts.
  • Maintain and create production/statistical databases/Excel tables.
  • Ad Hoc reporting. Assist Accounting department as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Skills & Qualifications

  • Final year of CPA studies or CPA designation.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in working in fast paced, deadline driven accounting environment.
  • Attention to detail and willingness to assist in other departmental functions where needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle conflicting priorities and in meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent proficiency with productivity software, MS Office Suite particularly Excel
  • Strong skills in using accounting software applications (Great Plains, RTA Flee Management Software, Route Optix or Materials Manager would be an asset).
  • Strong organizational, time management and interpersonal skills to function in a deadline driven environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with employees at various levels of the organization.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Salary - $75,000 - $90,000
