Your new role
The Senior Buyer & Contract Specialist is responsible for the execution of procurement activities for major equipment supply packages, bulk materials, and selected construction/service contracts within a large capital mining project delivered in an EPCM environment.
This role manages the end-to-end procurement cycle—from RFQ issuance through purchase order award and support to handover for post-award administration—ensuring that all packages are sourced in accordance with project requirements, approved procurement strategies, commercial terms, technical specifications, schedule constraints, and Owner governance.
Your key responsibilities:
1. Procurement Planning & Strategy Execution
• Execute procurement strategies for equipment, materials, and construction/service contracts in alignment with project schedule and risk.
• Identify and mitigate long-lead and critical-path items.
• Ensure compliance with Owner procurement policies, governance, and ethical standards.
2. RFQ & Tendering Management
• Prepare and issue RFQs in coordination with Engineering, Construction, and Project Controls.
• Develop commercial documentation and manage bidder communications and clarifications.
• Oversee bid receipt, compliance review, and bid evaluation.
3. Commercial Evaluation & Award Recommendation
• Lead commercial bid evaluations and coordinate technical reviews with Engineering and Construction.
• Prepare award recommendations, including commercial summaries and risk assessments, and support approval processes.
• Participate in negotiations with shortlisted vendors and contractors.
4. Purchase Order & Contract Formation
• Draft and finalize purchase orders and contracts, ensuring alignment of scope, pricing, and commercial terms.
• Coordinate internal reviews with Legal, Finance, Tax, Insurance, and Project Controls, and ensure timely execution.
• Maintain accurate procurement records in SAP/ERP and EDMS systems.
5. Vendor Performance & Interface Support
• Serve as the primary procurement focal point during pre-award and early post-award phases, supporting handover to Contract Administration.
• Participate in vendor kickoffs and monitor early performance indicators (engineering data, schedule, documentation).
• Support resolution of commercial and supply issues in coordination with Contract Administration and Expediting.
6. Cost, Schedule & Risk Control
• Ensure procurement commitments align with approved budgets and cost forecasts, with accurate tracking and reporting.
• Identify and escalate commercial and delivery risks, including pricing, scope gaps, and contractual deviations.
7. Cross-Functional Coordination
• Interface closely with Engineering, Project Controls, Construction, Contract Administration, Expediting & Logistics, Finance/AP, and Legal to ensure alignment on technical scope, schedules, costs, delivery, payments, and contract terms.Participate in procurement meetings, project reviews, and readiness sessions.
8. Reporting & Documentation
• Maintain complete procurement files
• Provide weekly/monthly procurement status reports
• Ensure document traceability
What you'll need to succeed
• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
• 7–12+ years of procurement experience in major capital projects.
• Strong experience in mining, heavy industrial, EPC/EPCM project environments.
• Proven experience sourcing engineered equipment, bulk materials, and construction services.
• Strong understanding of supply markets, fabrication processes, and construction contracting.
• Proficiency with SAP, Aconex and procurement systems.
• Professional certifications (SCMP, PMP, CIPS) considered an asset.
• Bilingualism is required
