Accent Inns Inc. is a BC-based hospitality company that is different in a good way. We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join our team for a 12-month parental leave coverage contract in Victoria, BC. We have two hotel chains: Accent Inns, where there is a rubber duck in every room, and Hotel Zed, where we rebel against the ordinary. Our latest venture is ROAR, our live-fire restaurant in Tofino, BC. We are searching for a Senior Accountant to join our flock of totally unique and fun-loving individuals to drive our business forward in the long term.
This role reports to Patricia Schoenroth, our Controller, and will be helping our amazing Finance team keep crunching numbers, planning parties and enjoying summer BBQs at our Rebel Base while our Senior Accountant welcomes her first kiddo into the world.

This is a Hybrid role, 2 days WFH and 3 days working from Rebel Base (our corporate office in Victoria).
Salary: $75,000 - $85,000
What the Role is Quacked Up to Be
Here you will be our second in command to Trish, our amazing Controller for Financial Statement analysis and preparation. You will support and mentor our Accounting Technicians as they manage AP, AR, Bookkeeping and all things accounting.
In your first 3 months, you will…
Partner with Trish, our Controller, to get a clear understanding of all your responsibilities
Partner with each member of the Finance team to better learn their day-to-day tasks and responsibilities.
Meet with key Operations leaders to start building relationships and understand their needs from the Finance team.
Work with our external VP Finance consultant to learn best practices and areas of opportunity to make things better (one of our core values).
Start taking ownership of all month end duties including corporate tax filings, accrual prep, expense reimbursements, restaurant operation analysis, including tip-outs, COGS calculations and corporate transactions.
Ensure our restaurant staff are tipped out promptly and correctly via the Direct Tip system.
Partner with P&C and Trish to get a broad view of our payroll process and practices, and take over the Finance team’s responsibilities in partnership with P&C.
Take over preparation and review of complex journal entries.
In your first 12 months, you will…
Have taken full ownership of the role, made improvements and be ready to pass the role back to Kaitlin upon her return from Parental leave.
Managed multiple month ends with the support of the Finance team.
Worked with Trish to develop new processes and automations to support the Finance team.
Identified any gaps or areas of opportunity to introduce more efficiency to our current processes.
Mentored and supported other members of the Finance team.
Worked closely with the Operations team to support them with budgeting and forecasting.
Manage Cash Flow projection reports, including processing transfer of funds between bank accounts.
This exciting role will help us continue to support our operations teams with the financial knowledge and skills to keep our hotels and restaurant operating smoothly and efficiently. As our Senior Accountant, you have the unique space to support your team and work across departments to enact change, empower decision makers with key information, and be a trusted voice around financial best practices.
What to expect from us?

First Interview (45min): You will meet with Jamie, our HR Manager, to discuss high level experience and understand value alignment.
Second Interview (60min): You will meet with Trish, our Controller, and Kaitlin, our Sr. Accountant to dig into your technical expertise and financial knowledge.
Final Interview (60min): You will meet with Edwin, our VP of Finance consultant, and Noah, our VP of People and Culture to discuss strategic impact of the role, values of the organization and answer any outstanding questions you may have.
