Harm Reduction Coordinator

Under the direction of the Harm Reduction Manager the Harm Reduction Coordinator will be responsible for supporting and leading the work in MSP harm reduction programs. 

Main Street Project offers peer led harm reduction programming in two locations: Community Supported Opioid Access (CSOA) and Peer X Outreach.  Employing a holistic approach rooted in harm reduction and trauma-informed philosophies, our dedicated staff provide a range of services, including safe opioid access, harm reduction strategies, case management, and advocacy, all framed within the context of fostering independence. 

The Harm Reduction Coordinator functions as a part of the Harm reduction leadership team in providing staffing and management support to all employees while maintaining the core values of MSP regarding harm reduction, choice, equity, and diversity to encourage individuals’ capacity building. The coordinator provides both administrative (data tracking, evaluation, administration oversights and support.) and support services designed to assist individuals in meeting their basic needs, ensure their safety and well-being and support folks to thrive through Harm reduction programming and support.

This position requires flexible work hours, will involving working in the two programs, which includes direct community member supports, Van outreach throughout the city, and working with community partners and stakeholders.


CSOA Programming

  • Provide direction to CSOA staff in day-to-day duties
  • Assist manager in program development
  • Supporting manager in adherence to policy and procedure
  • Ensuring all health and safety protocols are followed
  • Daily data collection and entry, including compiling narratives from TOC's and focus groups
  • Meeting daily with program relatives, ensuring all weekly, monthly and quarterly forms are completed
  • Weekly supply inventory management and supply ordering (donations, harm reduction, coffee, cups.)
  • Connecting with Physician and Pharmacy regarding participant data, medication delivery, appointments
  • Assisting with hiring and training of peer staff
  • Provide staff coverage on an emergency basis

Peer X Programming 


  • Provide direction to Peer X staff in day-to-day duties
  • Assist manager in program development
  • Supporting manager in adherence to policy and procedure
  • Ensuring all health and safety protocols are followed
  • Daily data collection and entry, including compiling narratives from TOC's and focus groups
  • Weekly supply inventory management and supply ordering (donations, harm reduction, coffee, cups.)
  • Assisting with hiring and training of peer staff
  • Provide staff coverage on an emergency basis
  • Collect and report on monthly statistical information
  • Working shifts in the PeerX van to provide support to staff and community.

Other Duties 


  • Monthly Harm Reduction and Naloxone ordering for organization
  • Fulfilling program harm reduction orders
  • Assisting with creating and implementing MSP Harm Reduction Training materials and workshops
  • Leadership & Administrative Duties
  • Exercises good judgement and decision-making as the final authority on shift. 
  • Provide, coordinate and implement housing crisis prevention and resolution protocol as needed
  • Debriefs with team after each incident 
  • Attend and plan mandatory staff meeting, workshops and training sessions 
  • Model respectful workplace behaviors 
  • Communication – communicates effectively with staff at all levels of the Agency demonstrating appropriate negotiating skills in an effort to find a resolution to workplace conflict. 
  • Builds effective workplace relationship to achieve job and program success. 
  • Monitor ongoing work, identify problems and make recommendations for continuous improvements of procedures and policies 
  • Overall supervision of housing daily operations, coordinate move-ins for community members entering housing, adhering to established protocols and working with external partners
  • Engage in consultation, case management, coordination, and active support for programming activities aimed at facilitating successful housing opportunities for residents in both transitional and permanent housing arrangements.
  • Coordinate and assist participants in planning, problem-solving, and addressing immediate needs, including providing food, water, clothing and other items essential for successful housing.
  • Coordinate and maintain cleanliness of the program area by following routine cleaning schedules each shift
  • Collaborate with Case managers in a view to enhance support work and care plans in achieving successful housing solutions.
  • Collects all monthly statistical information, MIS stats, MSP onsite Home care stats and other program related stats; checks for accuracy of all data collected 
  • Reports stats in a timely manner 
  • Prepare monthly statistical report as outlined by the Program Manager/ Director. 

Compliance:  


  • MSP policies and procedures – holds staff accountable; correct staff on policy administration when and where appropriate (including medication administration processes, support worker job responsibilities, MSP homecare job responsibilities etc.). 
  • PPE Audits – conduct daily personal protective equipment (PPE) audits on the correct use
  • Maintain records of all site issues / incidents exhibiting unethical and unprofessional business interactions. Coordinate and implement regular floor checks, on site Home care services, weekly room inspections and consistent shift well-being checks
  • Collective Agreement compliance 
  • Health & Safety – develop a safe working environment; ensure employees follow safe work practices and MSP standard operating procedures.
