This position assists in the field crews and volunteers on the Aquatic Invasive Species Program within the Ecology department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Initiates contacts with anglers and other aquatic recreationists
· Sample and identify target aquatic invasive species (zebra mussels)
· Carry out operation and towing of a boat and outboard motor
· Contributes to the exotic and invasive species control using herbicides and mechanical equipment
· Performs aquatic wildlife surveys and data entry
· GPS data collection may be assigned
· Keep neat and accurate records.
. Perform other duties as required.
Education and Experience Required
Additional Information: Must be 18 years of age or older by the first day of employment.
Hours: May - October; up to 40 hours per week (will include some evenings and weekends)
Preferred Experience: Working knowledge of an outboard motor and boat safety; previous experience with aquatic invertebrates, fish, and wildlife; ability to operate vehicles off-road; prior experience in natural resources management or related field.
Special training or other license, certification,etc.: Must have an undergraduate degree or be in the process of attaining an undergraduate degree in Biology, Ecology, or related field; possess a valid Driver’s License. Must be able to pass the Integrated Pest Management exam to qualify for Operator’s License within one (1) month of employment.
Skills In: Work independently and fulfill tasks with attention to detail and willing to work in a variety of inclement weather (heat, cold, rain within reason). Ability to convey basic ecological concepts to public in a professional manner. Must have the ability to swim.
