Operations Team Member
FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-exempt
Terms of Employment: 12-Month, Full Time
Reports To: Senior Director of Operations or designee
Position Overview: Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy is seeking dependable, service-oriented individuals to join the Operations Team and support the safe, clean, and effi cient operation of our K–12 campus. This hands-on role helps maintain facilities and grounds, ensuring operational readiness so students and staff can focus on teaching and learning.
Operations Team Members contribute across several areas of campus operations, including maintenance, custodial services, grounds support, transportation readiness, and event setup. The ideal candidate demonstrates reliability, attention to detail, practical problem-solving skills, and a strong commitment to serving the TJCA community.
Key Responsibilities: This position utilizes the skills and knowledge each member brings to the Operations Team. While individual team members may have regular daily assigned duties, all members are expected to collaborate and assist with any responsibilities listed below, as well as others assigned by the Senior Director of Operations. The following list provides an overview of the typical tasks the Operations Team is responsible for:
● Facility Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs across carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and building systems within training limits. Conduct facility inspections, assist with classroom and office setup, and maintain tools and supplies.
● Custodial Operations: Maintain cleanliness in classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas. Perform routine and deep cleaning, including floor care, sanitation, and waste removal. Safely operate custodial equipment.
● Grounds and Outdoor Maintenance: Maintain campus grounds by mowing, trimming, edging, and removing debris. Inspect outdoor areas for safety concerns and assist with seasonal tasks, including storm cleanup and weather preparation.
● Transportation Support: Assist with inspections, preparation, and vehicle cleanliness. Support transportation logistics for routes, fi eld trips, and events, and operate vehicles when licensed and assigned.
● Safety and Security Support: Help maintain a safe campus by monitoring facilities, reporting concerns, supporting safety procedures and drills, and maintaining emergency equipment.
● Event Operations: Assist with setup and breakdown for school events, athletics, and activities. Prepare event spaces and support traffic flow, parking, and crowd management.

Minimum Qualifications ● High school diploma or equivalent ● Valid North Carolina driver’s license with acceptable driving record ● Ability to pass required background checks and employment screenings ● Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds ● Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions ● Basic familiarity with tools, equipment, and facility operations ● Experience in facility maintenance, custodial services, groundskeeping, or building operations ● Strong communication and teamwork skills ● Basic computer skills
Preferred Qualifications ● Skilled trade experience (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, construction, or mechanical systems) ● Experience working in school, institutional, or campus environments ● CDL with school bus/passenger endorsement, or willingness to obtain ● Training related to facilities management, safety, or operational services
Physical Requirements This position requires regular physical activity typical of school facilities and operations work. Duties may include lifting, bending, standing, walking, operating equipment, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
