Through our Healthy Families, Early Head Start and Head Start Programs, Worcester Community Action Council (WCAC) provides a continuum of early education and care programming for families throughout Southern Worcester County prenatally through Kindergarten enrollment. We strive to support positive parent/child interactions through developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities for the whole family to participate in. We currently operate two Head Start Centers, one in Southbridge operating 8 classrooms and the other in Webster with 4 classrooms. Both centers are licensed through EEC, accredited through NAEYC, and QRIS rated level 3. Head Start prepares pre-school aged children for school by offering center-based safe and fun education programs which incorporates learning and social/emotional skill development. Children learn the “Kindergarten readiness” skills they need to do well in school. Families receive the support they need to meet and advocate for the needs of their children.
We are seeking a Family Advocate to join our team. The Family Advocate is responsible for working with children and parents enrolled in the program by providing advocacy, case management and social service guidance based on family goals. This is a full time, school year position, Monday to Friday 8:00am - 4:00pm based at our Southbridge center. Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

- Associate degree in Human Services and at least 2 years’ experience in human service field.
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with a diverse population.
- Knowledge of community resources in Southern Worcester County.
- Strong computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to learn agency systems such as ChildPlus.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, verbally, written, and virtual.
- Bilingual preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure weekly meetings are completed in a timely manner and provide written documentation of the weekly meetings.
- Coordinate and lead Case Management meetings and be prepared to report back outcomes on any referrals, follow-up and actions discussed.
- Maintain an updated Case Management binder for assigned children.
- Coordinate case conference with other community agencies when families are receiving services from other agencies not limited to DCF.
- Meet with Head Start Staff monthly or as needed to coordinate services in the dual program.
- Provide a month end closing report to Family Engagement Coordinator.
- Ensure that all related family information is entered, scanned, and updated in the ChildPlus. Including and not limited to communication with parents, PIR information, upload necessary documentation that include family reviews, case management, custody documentation, and any other documentation related to Social Service. Assure documents in children’s files match ChildPlus data.
- Update activity logs in ChildPlus monthly and make hard copies for the children’s main file.
- Provide parents with a community resources book.
- Ensure and advocate for families to receive services in a timely manner. Arrange transportation for families, when necessary, to visit community service providers, medical, and dental offices, and act as a liaison between community resources and families. Encourage and support families advocating for themselves in the community.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to successfully complete a CORI/SORI/DCF/finger printing review every two years.
- Evening hours may be required to meet the needs of the families and programs.
- Mandatory physical every two years and evidence of negative Mantoux test per DEEC requirement.
- CPR and First Aid certificate for infants and children required.
