Area Operator


We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Area Operator based in Garden City, TX area.  This position will have a dedicated area of responsibility including LACT units, ACT units and pipeline pump stations including above ground Storage Tanks.  The area will be responsible for all measurement activities in his/her assigned area I&E as well as mechanical skills will be helpful.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform all duties associated with lease data management system including by not limited to associated items shown below
  • Coordinate business unit analysis and system analysis with lease data management System.
  • Perform and responsible for the accurate measurement, sampling, and custody transfer operations of various crude oil types being gathered and transported through the gathering and pipeline system.
  • Responsible for and reconciles over and short, batch change, system utilization, and quality control
  • Performs inspection of L.A.C.T. units and associated tank inspections.
  • Responsible for meter calibration and meter proving in assigned area
  • Witness third-party meter provings.
  • Tracks meter performance
  • Performs all duties associated with custody transfer operations
  • Performs batch changing operations to ensure effective segregation of various crudes and products
  • Performs batch changing operations to ensure effective segregation of various crudes and products
  • Performs various mathematical calculations associated with over and short reconciliation
  • Reads and understands station flow and pipeline alignment drawings
  • Modify and troubleshoot Distributive Control Systems (DCS) and/or Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC). 
  • MODBUS Over I/P
  • Component level repairs to electronics circuits.
  • Motor operated valves.
  • Motor Control Centers
  • Medium Voltage Switch Gear and Power Handling Equipment
  • Electronic tank gauging systems.
  • Operations of computer hardware and associated equipment.
  • Supervise and/or repair mechanical problems on pipeline equipment.
  • Performs basic computer operations as required to perform assigned duties
  • Other duties as required

Knowledge and Skills: 

  • High School diploma. Prefer Associate Technical Degree or Trade School Certificate in Electronics or Instrumentation or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of I&E skills, API measurement tank gauging and measurement operations experience is a plus.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Excel, MS Word, Outlook, Internet)
  • Good communication skills
  • Experience with operation of ACT meters and crude station equipment; meter calibration certificate preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of various crude grades and crude analyzing technology
  • Knowledge of L.A.C.T. unit design and operations.
  • Complete understanding of all proving techniques
  • Knowledge of electronic flow computers, densitometers, pycnometers, and automatic temperature averages as applicable.
  • Knowledge of pipeline operations.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Physical Demands:

  • Works both indoors and outdoors in and around industrial and electrical equipment with temperature extremes due to weather conditions and operating equipment.
  • Uses physical force to lift, push, pull and hold equipment and tools. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., manually transport a load up to 75 lbs., and apply up to 100 foot-pounds of torque.
  •  Climbs and works at various heights and may work in a standing, sitting, lying down, crouched or kneeling position.  Must be able to bend, stoop, move from ground level to higher levels.
  • Routinely reacts to visual, aural and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work.
  • May work in confined spaces (i.e. tanks, between compressors, vessels).
  • Must have the ability to get in and out of vehicles regularly and ride over rough roads.
