Special Education Teacher Job Description

We are adding one grade level per year and will be serving students in 4K through 8th grade next school year. In the near future, we will also be applying for expansion of our charter to serve students in high school beginning in the 23-24 school year.

Main Job Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:

·        Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences with Core Knowledge, Eureka, and Core Virtues Curriculum in a small group setting and/or classroom push-in

·        Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by law, district policies, and school regulations

·        Construct IEP and/or 504 documents in collaboration with team members

·        Schedule and participate in committee on special education meetings with Director of Special Education

·        Maintain a positive classroom environment that is conducive to learning

·        Administer school-wide assessments and use data to inform instruction

·        Identify and select instructional resources and methods to meet students' varying needs

·        Use relevant educational and/or assistive technology to support instruction

·        Observe and evaluate student's performance and development

·        Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress toward goals and development

·        Appropriately manage student behavior in the classroom and establish positive relationships

·        Participate in department and school meetings, parent meetings, and professional development

·        Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs

·        Adhere to CCA school policies and procedures

·        Work collaboratively with classroom assistants and the Director of Special Education as needed

·        Maintain professionalism in the workplace

Job Skills & Requirements:

·        Bachelor's degree in special education, literacy, or related field                                                          

·        South Carolina State Certification (Special Education)

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in special education or related field; Experience with Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA)
